K.A.P.A. UK
KAPA UK (Karaoke Anti Piracy Agency UK) is a new organisation with one objective, to stop and prevent the use of illegally obtained karaoke tracks to ensure the long term security of our industry.
KAPA have teamed up with the main UK Karaoke Labels (Mr Entertainer, SBI, Sunfly, Abraxa & Zoom) to create a license scheme that confirms the legitimacy of Venues & DJ’s with legally bought karaoke content. Legitimate content owners can apply for a license and once approved by the KAPA board will become an approved KAPA Licensee. Venues & DJ’s unable or unwilling to prove they have legitimately purchased karaoke content will be investigated and those found to be using illegally sourced material could face legal action.
KAPA will be working closely and sharing information with the PPL, BPI, PRS, Police & Trading Standards to ensure all venues & DJ’s have the necessary licenses in place.
In the coming weeks KAPA will be sending out letters to karaoke venues & DJ’s inviting them to get involved on the scheme by verifying the legitimacy of their content and applying for a license, and visiting shows & venues of those who don’t respond.
We at Mr Entertainer believe this is a positive step for the industry and urge everyone to support KAPA UK and get licensed ASAP. If everyone supports this scheme it will force venues to ensure their DJ’s are using legal or KAPA approved content and drive out unfair competition from unlicensed DJ’s who are not only stealing karaoke content but also stealing work and income from the legal operators
